Set in the modern splendor of Escazu - 6 miles from downtown San Jose - our convenient Costa Rica hotel is walking distance of Multiplaza Escazu and a myriad shops, restaurants, bars, entertainment, museums, theaters, art galleries and attractions. A few miles away, you’ll find the National Theatre, Gold Museum, National Museum and the Central Market.
Day 02: San Jose – Tortuguero National Park Early in the morning, you will be transferred to the Airport for a domestic air flight to Tortuguero where a representative of Manatus Lodge will be waiting for you in order to transfer you to the lodge. Tortuguero National Park is one of the most varied within the park system, has 11 ecological habitats, from high rainforest to herbaceous marsh communities. Fronting the sea is the seemingly endless expanse of beach. Behind that is a narrow lagoon, connected to the sea at one end and fed by a river at the other, which parallels the beach for its full 35-km length. Back of the lagoon is a coastal rainforest threaded by an infinite maze of serpentine channels and streams fed by rivers flowing from the central mountain ranges and by thel rains that fall in the area. On the periphery of the forest lies a complex of swamps. Breakfast and lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon visit to Tortuguero town and the Caribbean Conservation Museum. Dinner. Day 04: Tortuguero/ Drake Bay After breakfast, boat transfer to Tortuguero airport in order to take your airflight to Palmar, where a representative of La Paloma lodge will be waiting in order to transfer you to the lodge. Our bilingual resident guides are the best Costa Rica has to offer. They are friendly and well versed about local flora and fauna and everyone will return from this tour with fascinating facts and with knowledge of the history of the area. Corcovado National Park, also known as the Amazon of Costa Rica, spans over 100,000 acres of virgin and secondary rain forest. A 25 minute boat ride from the Lodge will land you at the northern entrance to the park. Trails begin along pristine beaches, wind through deep rain forest, and follow riverbeds to magnificent waterfalls and swimming holes. This is a full day tour including a picnic lunch, transportation to and from the Lodge, and a guide. Boas, scarlet macaws, reptiles, and several species of monkeys are creatures you might chance to see. Dinner. Overnight at La Paloma lodge. ![]() Day 06: Drake bay/ Tour to Caño Island Caño Island Biological Marine Reserve is 12 nautical miles or 20 km offshore from Drake Bay. The beauty of Isla del Caño is not found on its land, but underwater. This island's virgin waters are some of the bluest in the country, and are home to a spectacular variety of stunning marine flora and fauna as well as some gorgeous coral reefs. Isla del Caño Biological Reserve is also home to a huge variety of fish, whales and sharks. The complete 2 km perimeter of the Island protected from commercial fishing and any other type of harvesting. With fantastic underwater visibility, one may see on any given day, sea turtles, dolphins, rays, barracudas, and white tip sharks. Isla del Caño is an island of considerable geographical and archeological importance. This 300-hectare piece of land was formerly a cemetery or burial ground dating back to the pre-Columbian era of the Diquis tribal people.The Costa Rican Park service offers one small beach for visitors. There is a ranger station house, restrooms, a picnic area and shade trees. This full day tour includes a picnic lunch, transportation to and from the Island, snorkeling equipment and a guide. Dinner. Overnight at La Paloma Lodge. Day 07: Drake Bay/ Savegre River Valley: Rafiki Safari Lodge After breakfast, boat and land transportation to Palmar where you will take a domestic air flight to Quepos. At Quepos airport a representative of Rafiki Safari lodge will transfer you to the Lodge. Lunch. Free afternoon to enjoy the area. Overnight at Rafiki Safari lodge. Day 08: Rafiki Safari lodge/ Savegre River rafting After breakfast, white water rafting on the Savegre river, Rafiki offers excellent white water rafting tours on the Savegre River. We offer a variety of ways to get to the river, from the standard truck ride, to a 3 hour nature hike, and even a horse back ride. Our ideal location allows us enjoy all the river provides. We offer several trips, depending on your ability level. We like to personalize our trips, and will try our best to meet your adventure needs, be that the views or adrenaline. Horseback riding tour: Let your feet rest and your eyes wander as you make your way through the mountainous terrain on one of our sturdy horses. Horses are still used by the local people of the Savegre. Rafiki tries to maximize the cultural experience by traveling to places where horses are still the major form of transportation. Sometimes we cross rivers, go to mountain tops with ocean views, carry the rafts, or even go eat ice cream in the village. Our horses are mellow enough for the whole family. Lunch. Free afternoon to hike in the area: With more than 700 acres of rainforest, Rafiki offers a variety of trails to explore. Our hikes are guided by a biologist. You will learn about the flora and fauna of the area, get a little exercise and be blown away by the ecology Rafiki has to offer. Day 10: Rafiki safari lodge/ San Jose After breakfast, transfer to Quepos Airport to take a domestic air flight to San Jose.
